About log facilities

This page explains KXS log facilities, which are subsystems or service classes that provide granular control over logging across processes.

Log files in KXS are broken down into facilities. A facility is a KXS subsystem, service class, or set of related routines that allows for more granular control of your logging.

There is no one-to-one relationship between a log facility and a process. The same process (for example, kxsRDB_A1) may be attached to a number of different log facilities (LOG, EMS, MDB, MDL, etc.) depending on the code path that it follows as it makes its way through various KXS subsystems.

Some common examples of KXS logging facilities are:

  • COMM (Communications)
  • DISC (Discovery)
  • EMS (Enterprise Messaging System)
  • GW (Gateway)
  • LOAD (Loading code files from disk)
  • LOG (process.q)
  • MON (Monitoring system)
  • MSG (Messaging system)
